Prepare your sock balls:
- Grab two socks.
- Pair the two socks together.
- If you want a larger ball, take a pair of shorts and roll the shorts up inside the paired socks.
- Finish by molding the ball until it is round.
Find your bat. This could be a plastic bat, an empty 2-liter plastic bottle, half a pool noodle, or a paper towel tube.
Pick a boundary that will serve as your home run “fence." Remember that this doesn’t have to be an actual fence; it could be a garden fence, landscape wall, a line drawn on the ground with spray paint, a line of chairs, etc.
Check your space. Make sure that you have enough space to swing your “bat” without hitting a person or anything breakable.
Mark a “home plate” where you will bat from every time.
You can be your own pitcher, or ask another member of the household to pitch for you.
See how many home runs you can hit in 20 swings.
Include other members of your household and compete to see who can make the most home runs in 20 swings.
- How successful were you in hitting home runs?
- Without moving home plate or the fence, how could you make it easier to hit home runs? Harder?
