Do you know the basics of using a keyboard?
Check to make sure you know how to do the following:
- Capitalize letters using the shift key.
- Find the spacebar to add a space between words as you are typing.
- Add a period at the end of a sentence.
- What about a question mark?
- Delete letters or words using the delete or backspace key.
Go around the room and count off either a 1 or 2. All the 1s should get into one team and all the 2s should get into another. Line up near the computers each team will use for the race.
It’s helpful to have a staff member leading this activity! You’ll need someone to be the leader. When the leader says “Go,” the first person in each line should head to the first computer and type the sentence they see on the notecard.
After you finish typing your first sentence, move on to the next computer to type the second sentence. You’ll use a different computer for each sentence you’re supposed to type. In the meantime, the person after you in line should start typing from the first card that’s located on the first computer.
The leader needs to check what’s been typed and make sure everyone uses proper capitalization and formatting.
The first team to finish typing their sentences and complete any optional tasks wins.
