- Paper and pen/pencil
- OR Whiteboard and dry-erase marker
Instructions
- Tell participants they will now practice their brainstorming skills.
- Explain that to brainstorm, participants will need to list their ideas or steps necessary to undertake a certain activity.
- Ask if everyone is ready to work together.
- Discuss the rules of brainstorming:
- No idea is a bad one.
- Don't discuss the merits or details of any idea.
- Get as many ideas listed as quickly as possible.
- State the specific goal or topic of this brainstorming session.
- Write the goal or topic on the whiteboard or on a large sheet of paper.
- Ask, “Who would like to be the recorder for today's brainstorming session?”
- Select one volunteer, call them to the front of the room, and hand them a marker.
- Ask for volunteers to raise their hands if they would like to share ideas to record for this brainstorming session.
- Pause between each idea volunteered to give the recorder time to write down the responses.
- Assist the group in narrowing down their selections from the options suggested on the paper or whiteboard.
- Congratulate everyone for their cooperation.
