Try out this fun and simple movement experience for an energizer.
This can also be considered a dance experience as youth experiment with movement and levels.
Step 1
- Ask youth to form a circle arms-distance apart from other youth.
- Say, “When I say so, but not yet, we’re going to move to a different spot in the circle. When I say ‘3, 2, 1, GO’ you will have to move to another spot in the circle as quickly as you can without running or bumping into others.”
- Say, “3, 2, 1, GO!”
- Allow youth to find another spot in the circle.
- Say, “Great! Now I will give you a type of movement to do while you move across the circle. When I say, ‘3, 2, 1, GO’ you will find another spot in the circle by moving in whatever way I say. For example, I might say move across the circle by spinning, move across the circle by not leaving the ground or move across the circle by jumping.”
Step 2
- Direct youth through the following prompts by giving one prompt and then saying “3, 2, 1, GO!”:
- Move across the circle by spinning.
- Move across the circle by jumping.
- Move across the circle by not leaving the ground.
- Move across the circle as slowly as you can.
- Move across the circle while stomping your feet.
- Move across the circle sideways.
- Move across the circle while waddling.
- Move across the circle with a jump and a spin.
- Move across the circle as fast as you can without running or bumping into anything.
- Move across the circle on your toes.
- Continue for as long as time allows, adding any additional movement-based prompts you can think of.
