Instructions
- Gather youth in a circle.
- Tell participants they are all seeds, and they will grow into beautiful flowers.
- Demonstrate the seed position by crouching down as low as possible.
- Invite everyone in the circle to join you as seeds in position.
- Tell everyone to imagine they are growing into flowers – as slowly as they possibly can.
- Demonstrate growing into a flower quickly, but emphasize that everyone else must move and grow as slowly as they can.
- Be ready to help out youth who have difficulties.
- Encourage youth to end by standing as tall as they can – on tippy toes, arms outstretched, face towards the sun.
- Invite members to hold that position as long as they can.
- Congratulate everyone for following your instructions and their endurance in growing slowly into beautiful flowers.
- Exclaim, “Now you can relax for a few moments!”
- Announce, “Now we will do it again. But this time, we will grow from seed to flower a little bit faster.”
- Resume the seed position, and encourage everyone to imitate as you very slowly grow into a flower.
- Lead youth in letting out a big sigh as they are flowering.
- Jump in the air at the end of the stretch.
- Repeat this process a couple more times, faster each time, as time permits.
- Ask youth how they feel after completing this activity. (They should be relaxed and warm.)
